Shipping Clerk - Lead

LEAD SHIPPING CLERK  Southwest Precision Printers, LP has an opening for an experienced Lead Shipping clerk.                             SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:   This position will report directly to the shipping manager.  It will require fast and effective communication on jobs needing to ship that day.  Communication with production on when jobs will be available and prioritizing work to ensure all jobs are shipped correctly on a timely basis.     REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:    

  • Must have previous Fed Ex and UPS computer systems experience - Domestic & International, shipping large distributions.
  • Must have good computer skills
  • Must have Excel experience
  • Must be able to manipulate spreadsheets to interface with Fed Ex and UPS systems
  • Must be very detail oriented
  • Must have previous forklift experience
  • Must be able to lift, carry and/or move heavy boxes manually or with specified equipment  
  • Ability to handle routing of delivery drivers
  • Knowledge of Houston area
  • Must communicate well to associates, clients and drivers.
  • Monarch or PSI software experience helpful
  • Minimum 10 years experience working in a fast paced shipping environment
  • Must be able to work overtime

Digital Press Machine Operator

Digital Press Machine Operator Southwest Precision Printers, LP has an excellent opportunity for a 2nd shift Digital Press Machine Operator.    This person will be responsible for setting up and running the following equipment:  

  • Ricoh C901 HI Speed Color Production Printer
  • Xerox Color 1000 Production Printer w/ 5th color Clear
Primary Duties
  • Review job ticket to ensure conformity to written and verbal instruction.
  • Print file to Digital Front End (DFE) Feiry Command Workstation
  • Check proofs for accuracy. Check output for accuracy.  Release to press.
  • Set up and run Digital presses.
  • Regularly inspect the finished product to ensure quality and accuracy.
  • Operate and maintain the equipment in a safe and cost effective manner.
    Other Responsibilities
  • Prepare/Trim proofs as required.
  • Cut required paper stock necessary for completion for job.
  • Knowledge of bindery procedures which include Cutter, Hand Stitcher, Folder, Drilling Press and Automatic Perfect Binder
  • Trouble shoot problems on the MAC/PC/DFE (Digital front end)
  • Maintain assigned equipment to ensure its optimum operation. 
  • Provides feedback and suggestions to supervisors about current or future workflow problems or needs.
  • Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
  • Interface with customers, the sales department and co-workers to address and resolve any problems.
  • A minimum of three years Digital Printing knowledge & experience.
  • Must have knowledge of a Digital Power Press for moving print job to the Canon Printers.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be self motivating and a self starter.
  • Must have good organizational and communication skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • This position requires long periods of standing time.
  • This position will require much lifting of cartons weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Experience with Hagen OA computer system a plus
    Other Information Hours are Monday thru Friday, 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm Hours are subject to change at any time.  Must be flexible.  Must be available to work overtime.

Prepress Manager

JOB SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for overseeing all operations and personnel of our Pre-Press and Digital departments.     PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Controls quality in all operations in the department.
  • Insures that all operations are performed by the most efficient methods and at optimum speeds.
  • Verifies accurate recording of time and materials used.
  • Supervises all personnel in the department.
  • Maintains equipment and materials.
  • Assigns work to employees considering the following points:
    • Priorities set by scheduling department.
    • Qualifications and training of employee.
    • Most efficient sequence for productivity.
    • Suitability of equipment.
    • Availability of all materials to complete job.
  • Reads job ticket thoroughly to be sure work to be done is understood; consults planning  department concerning problems or questions; explains job to employee, emphasizing any unusual or critical points.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments. Participates actively in monthly supervisors’ meeting and daily production meetings.
  • Conforms to production schedule determined by scheduling department; advises them immediately if schedule cannot be met.
  • Gives opinions concerning time needed to complete unusual or complex jobs.
  • Develops Standard Job Procedures for all operations and monitors their use.  Revises them to correct deficiencies or incorporate new or improved methods.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION: Must have Printing background.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Strong interpersonal & problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively lead, manage and develop employees, including facilitating a team environment.  Must have prior Management experience.
  • Requires ongoing coordination, communication and/or team problem solving between departments for work production or service quality.
