About Southwest Precision Printers
36 years ago, Tim Tully and his wife, Barkla, began their printing business in a warehouse in Bellaire, Texas with equipment acquired from a former map printing enterprise. One noteworthy piece of equipment that was part of their acquired inventory was a 1940s press designed to print maps on aircraft destroyers in WWII. As the story goes, a neighboring mechanic volunteered to rebuild the press from a large box of parts included in the equipment purchase. The result was later affectionately known as the “Purple Paper Eater”.
During its first nine years, SWP printed one-color and two-color jobs. Tim would do the camera work and film stripping during the early morning, make his sales calls during business hours, and then run the press in the evening. Barkla, on the other hand, spent her days at a full-time job and then devoted her evenings to handling all accounting functions and other duties for their new business.
From those humble beginnings, our company has flourished and grown through a mixture of hard work, persistence and integrity to become one of Houston’s most respected commercial printers.
Today, SWP operates from a 48,000 square-foot facility in west central Houston at Beltway 8 and I-10 and is the largest independent, family-owned commercial printer in Houston. Ranked as the 3rd largest commercial printer in Houston by the Houston Business Journal in 2010, SWP has enjoyed continuous growth the past 36 years. The company has quadrupled sales since 1995 and we attribute our success to our exceptional staff, cutting-edge prepress technology, superb craftsmen and state-of-the-art equipment. Throughout the years, our outstanding team has won numerous awards for printing and graphic excellence.
With a passionate commitment to excellence, SWP is dedicated to continuing our tradition of providing our clients with the highest level of quality products, courteous customer service and cutting-edge technology.
